Here in Costa Rica, family photographs in the rainy season are inevitable. The rainy season months are roughly May through November. And although that certainly doesn’t mean that it rains all day every day, it does require a bit more planning when paying for professional photographs.
Here are some tips to keep in mind when doing family pictures during the rainy season:
Earlier in the day is usually a better option (but not necessarily!)
Ensure that you have a rain date as a backup, especially if you’re paying a deposit or signing a contract
Embrace it! Immerse yourself in the ebb and flow of mother nature here in Costa Rica (or wherever in the world YOU might be)
Remember that pictures are memories captured in the moment, and that might mean wet hair, dancing in puddles, and having fun (Check out some of my fun photoshoots like that here)
Missing might be that golden hour magic, but storm clouds add a different kind of moodiness to a photograph
Here are some family photographs in the rainy season that I have captured here in the southern zone of Costa Rica.
