Solo and Family Photography

So you want professional pictures of your gorgeous family, and you figure while you’re at it, you might as well get some updated photographs of yourself for your own inspired projects. This is a very common request I receive and I combine these solo and family photography shoots quite often. If you’re going to get all dolled up and head to the beach, let’s get some mileage out of it. And all of this takes place in one hour and is all part of the same family photography package.

In a solo and family photography session, I typically tend to photograph the family first, especially if the children are small. Then one parent keeps an eye on the children as I shoot some solo portraits. If both adults are having professional portraits taken, then they can swap the child watching duties. It is ideal to have an adult who is not being photographed, a spouse or friend, to keep an eye on things – like little humans. This type of photo shoot also works for couples. Many times couples will want pictures together, but again, they also would like a collection of new photographs for their own personal reasons. Some clients prefer to do a quick wardrobe change to create a more versatile look for their collection. Here is another example of a client who opted to do a wardrobe change.

As you can see, a simple shirt change can create a variety of new looks. Clients especially like this when they plan to use the images for their websites or for social media branding photography.
