I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s worth mentioning again: family photography in Ojochal is magical. There is so much variety; no two sessions ever look the same. These photos were taken in Playa PiƱuelas, which is a super tranquil and quaint cove tucked quietly in the southern pacific zone of CR. It’s part of the Marino Ballena National Parks, but with a much more private feel than say, Playa Chaman.
Luckily for me, the security guard was super kind. Our photoshoot was scheduled for 5pm. Apparently, they close the gates at 4pm. I was already on the beach doing my usual pre-photoshoot routine, and when I came back to the gates to meet my clients, the guard broke the news to me. This was a first for me, as the other national parks I had visited to do not have the same rules. (Lesson learned.) In my best Spanish, which isn’t saying much, we talked it out and he graciously allowed us to enter to take the photos.
I was super grateful because there is a small window for golden hour photos in Costa Rica. The sun is pretty harsh if you begin too early, then there’s a quick window of golden light, and then poof, it’s gone. So traveling to another beach, even just 5 minutes way, wasn’t really an ideal option. With the addition of small children during this photoshoot, I was even more thankful to have been able to shoot this session after closing hours. Family photography in Ojochal isn’t always stress-free, but it surprises you pleasantly in other ways. Like these precious photos, for example.
