Portraits Before Golden Hour

The weather was ideal for this photo shoot. The skies were clear and perfect for golden hour. The majority of my portraits this past summer were cloudy evenings with not much dewy golden hour light peeking through, like this one.

We began a bit earlier than golden hour for this session, and the sun was still a bit too bright in my opinion. However, I was able to edit out many of the hot spots on their faces. As the photo shoot went on, the sun dipped lower and lower into the sky and the light softened a great deal. Because of this, I was happy I got a few different family shots in separate locations and different times throughout the session.

When I arrived to this location, I was a bit taken aback by the crowd. I knew there would be more people than usual since it was a gorgeous beach day..on a Sunday…in August. I guess I was just hoping that by 5:30 the crowd would have thinned out. But not a chance. Everyone who was still there was having a good time with no thoughts of leaving. Again, I was able to edit many people out of the background.

These outfits were a dream, and the 3 girls looked angelic. Because of the crowd, I spent more time in the grasses instead of the shoreline and these turned out to be my favorite shots.
