Meet VIctoria, Matt, and Owen! I was able to photograph this lovely family on Rockaway Beach on a partly cloudy afternoon. There were some positives and some negatives to this shoot; the negatives all weather related as this family was just so pleasurable.
I typically like to schedule all family sessions about 2 hours before sunset. On this particular day, the weather forecast was predicting thunderstorms in the evening. Since it was a partly cloudy day, we decided to move the shoot up a couple of hours. We began the photoshoot at 3:30 pm and even though there were plenty of clouds, the sun was still very strong and this beautiful fair skinned family needed to squint in order to protect their eyes. On top of the partly cloudy weather, there was also a strong breeze that is not so unusual, but it is unfortunate when trying to snap professional pictures.
We did have a nice variety of locations which included the beach’s shoreline, rock jetties, and tall grasses. I love this picture of the three of them walking away from the camera, but I do wish I had asked Victoria to look back over her shoulder at the camera. Live and learn.
This picture of baby Owen leaning towards his dad is super sweet. I love the connection between all 3 of them in this shot. They were such a lovely family to photograph. There was enough cloud coverage for us to get plenty of great shots, but there were also times where the sun shone through and created an inconsistency that I did not like! I have since realized that unless I have shade from trees, I will not be shooting at this time of day in the open like this, even if it is partly cloudy.
